The Examiner Club is one of several social clubs that flourished in Boston in the 19th century, and one of the few that still meets regularly. Its members are a diverse mix of curious, collegial people from a broad variety of professions who convene monthly during the academic year for lively, topical conversation. At each meeting, a club member makes a presentation, and the group “examines” the topic through questions and discussion.

“This club ought to make us all think more clearly on subjects which few of us have had the time to examine for ourselves. I would like to see us as diverse as possible within the boundaries of civility, as exploratory as possible within the limits of comprehension. Those of us who are teachers should be able to teach those of us who are learners.”

— Peter Davison, President, 1991
